Perhaps you’re travelling abroad this December and plan on experiencing a Christmas market on Christmas Day? Or maybe you thought you could start a new tradition and pick up a mulled wine on your Christmas Day walk? Before you get too deep into those Christmas plans, the question on your lips is quite possibly, “are Christmas markets open on Christmas Day?”

And perhaps before we continue, we need to make one thing clear. Christmas Day varies across Europe. In this article, by Christmas Day we mean 25th December.

So let’s get to the bottom of it.

As usual, the answer always depends. If you’re travelling to Brussels, you’re in luck. The Christmas market is open on Christmas Day. But Christmas markets being open on Christmas Day will vary from city to city and country to country.

When is the Brussels Christmas market open on Christmas Day?

This year (2023) the Brussels Christmas market opens on 24 November and closes on 31st December.

The opening hours for Christmas Day are 12pm to 10pm. Much like any other day.

On Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve, the Christmas

It’s a huge Christmas market that takes place in the Grand Place with around 200 market stalls selling all sorts of gifts, food and Christmas decorations.

When is the Prague Christmas market open on Christmas Day?

This year (2023) Prague’s Christmas market opens on the first Saturday of Advent, and closes on 6th January.

The opening hours for Prague’s Christmas markets are 10am – 10pm every day, including Christmas Day.

The largest Christmas market in Prague is the one in the Old Town Square. The market sits underneath the famous Astronomical Clock and a giant Christmas tree.

When is the Milan Christmas market open on Christmas Day?

Some of the Milan Christmas markets are open on Christmas Day including the Milan Christmas Village in the centre of Milan at Indro Montanelli Public Gardens.

Milan’s Christmas village opens on 18th November 2023 and stays open until 7th January 2024.

The opening times for the Milan Christmas Village are daily from 10am to 9pm. Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and New Year’s Eve have special opening times:

Christmas Eve 10:30am to 6pm

Christmas Day 3pm to 8pm

New Year’s Eve 10:30am to 6:30pm
